Bacterial STDs are caused by bacteria. These STDs can be dangerous to a persons health if left untreated. They can cause infertility for both men and women. They can be easily treated though with antibiotics. These STDs include chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and a few less common ones.

Viral STDs are caused by virus. These STDs can also cause health problems such as cancer, but usually do not cause infertility. These STDs have no cure, they only have treatments and medication to help with the symptoms. These STDs include HPV (Human papillomavirus), herpes, HIV, and hepatitis. Certain strains of HPV have been known to cause cervical cancer in women, which worldwide is the second most common cancer in women.
