For example cut a potato in half, cut the the half in half then cut the quarter in the middle making two wedge shapes

Chop into long chunks about 1 inch thick.
If this is referring to potatoes, use smaller potatoes and include some of the rounded outer edge in each *wedge*. I also strongly advise keeping the skins on...makes them taste so much better !
