Normal as you have seen before this has been changing over recent times. For me, normal means that one's blood glucose (BG) is somewhere about 85 to 95 mg/dl. I believe that's about 4 mmol. The past definition was if your BG is over 140 then you're diabetic. I think that's 6+. Something between 120 - 140 was "pre-diabetic". I think that's 5+ to 6+. Now that definition has been reduced because there are much more diabetics in western countries. From what I have found if you're normal, you're BG floats between 85 to 105 and may go up to 120 and a bit should you eat lots of sweets in one meal. But, it will go down to the 'normal' range rather quickly.

The main item that should be tracked is a person's HbA1c which is a long term - about 3 months - average BG. The goal for the Amer. Diabetis Assoc is to get something below 7. I would prefer something around 5 to 6. The way I figure, an average person's A1c is 5 or about a BG of 100 mg/dl. For every whole point above 5, add 35 to that 100. So, an A1c of 6.4 would mean an average BG of 149 for the three months. Obviously, get an A1c of 5 is a good thing. So there you have it. My 2 pennies.

WIKIPEDIA
Normally, blood glucose levels stay within narrow limits throughout the day: 4 to 8 mmol/l (70 to 150 mg/dl).
Levels up to 100 mg/dL are considered normal.
MEDLINEPLUS.
Levels between 100 and 126 mg/dl are referred to as impaired fasting glucose or pre-diabetes. These levels are considered to be risk factors for type 2 diabetes and its complications.
Diabetes is typically diagnosed when fasting blood glucose levels are 126 mg/dl or higher.
Note: mg/dL = milligrams per deciliter.
The figures given by MEDLINEPLUS is more accurate.

Normal ranges are 80 - 120. If you want to take it after you've eaten - wait 2 hours (post prandial), then take it again. A normal range is around 180 - 200. If it is much higher than that, you have consumed too many carbohydrates during your meal.
