Veganism is a philosophy and lifestyle that avoids using animals and animal products for food, clothing and other purposes. In practice, a vegan (an adherent to veganism) commits to the abstention from consumption or use of all animal products, including meat, fish, poultry, honey, eggs and dairy products, as well as articles made of fur, wool, bone, leather, feathers, pearls, mother of pearl, coral, and other materials of animal origin. Many vegans also avoid products that have been tested on animals.

People become vegans for a variety of reasons, including ethical concerns such as animal rights and the environment, as well as more personal reasons such as health benefits[1] and spiritual or religious concerns. A Time/CNN poll published in Time Magazine on July 7, 2002, found that 4% of American adults consider themselves vegetarians, and 5% of self-described vegetarians consider themselves vegans. This suggests that 0.2% of American adults are vegans.

In 2002, the UK Food Standards Agency reported that 5% of respondants self-identified as vegetarian or vegan. Of that 5%, approximately 10% ate white meat, nearly half ate fish and 95% ate dairy. Based on these figures, vegans are approximately 0.25% or less of the UK population

A vegan does not eat any fish, meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products or foods that contain any of these products. They also do not use any non-food items that contain products from animals, including wool from sheep, leather and silk. Vegans often do not eat honey, because bees may be killed while harvesting it.
A vegan diet consists of vegetables, grains, beans, nuts, fruits and seeds. This diet tends to be high in fiber and moderate in protein and fat.
A vegan will not use margarine that has casein, a milk product, in it and they do not use shoes that are made from leather. Vegans do not eat white granulated sugar because it is often processed by using char derived from animal bones to whiten the sugar. They also do not use products that are tested on animals, as are many cosmetics.

Vegans don't eat anything that comes from animals and they don't wear animal clothing or shoes or own animals tested products. They get their protein from tofu...they eat tofu turkey, spare ribs, chicken, ice cream, etc. There's different kinds of vegetarians..some eat fish, some just don't eat red meat, but most of the time they don't eat meat but eat products that come from the animals like the occasional egg, milk, cheese. Most have no problem wearing animal tested products either...they're not so strict as vegans.

A vegetarian who eats plant products only, especially one who uses no products derived from animals, as fur or leather.

A vegetatian, but a step further. They won't drink milk, because it comes from a cow. They eat nuts, grains, and vegetables, mostly. Usually only raw foods, which means they do not heat up any food. Nothing is cooked. No eggs etc.
