Beans & rice are a complete protein. For instance you can go to a Mexican restaurant have a taco, but request beans & rice in it along with the veggies. I do that all the time. I explicitly say "no meat" then they "get it."

I buy a mix by "Fantastic" for making tacos at home without meat. I make it as the box states, then add in a small jar of Chi Chi's "taco sauce." It's wonderful!

Also here is my smoothie recipe - I have this several times a week for breakfast or at "brunch" time:

1 small banana
1/3 semi-frozen berries of your choice (like rasp & blueberries)
Splash of OJ (like a shot glass full only) or cranberry juice
2 or 3 ice cubes
One scoop of GeniSoy Ultra XT Vanilla Protein Shake powder (it's good when vanilla)
Approx. 6 oz. Vanilla organic yogurt (like Stonyfield brand)

Blend that very well til all the ice is crushed uniformly.
Enjoy!

Most large stores have an "organic" section. Soups with lentils and beans in them are very healthy.

Also we like Red Roasted Hummus on whole wheat organic crackers - delicious and great source of protein.

The Organic Gourmet is great bc they have buillon cubes that are Vegan and it's out of this world - flavor that's better than anything I've tasted, use for cooking, broth, use in your stuffing, whatever.

If you have a local organic food store near you, sometimes they offer cooking classes where you can learn quite a bit.

I will eat organic chicken and fish - but if I can't find organic I won't eat it. It's just my personal preference. I also eat organic eggs and sometimes milk.

No, don't go for protein pills! No nuts or beans? Even if they're hidden in things, like beans in a minestrone or nuts in pecan pie? That's going to make it harder for you, but it's still possible to get all of the protein you need. Are you lacto-ovo? If so, dairy products and eggs will provide lots of protein. Do you like tofu and/or soymilk? A lot of soy products are high in protein, and there are nut milks like almond as well. Have you tried foods like tempeh or seitan? Those are grain proteins and can be quite tasty. What about meat substitutes, like those from Morningstar Farms, Boca, or Lightlife? Those usually have a good deal of protein (as well as salt and such, though). There's also protein in many of the items that people eat on a daily basis. For example, a bagel usually has 5 grams. Also, I wouldn't worry terribly about getting protein, though. Most adults only need something like 50 grams a day (not sure about teenagers), and it's pretty easy to get that as long as you're eating a balanced diet. People think "vegetarian" and freak out because so many protein sources are meat, but it isn't as huge of a worry as most people think it is.

If you chose to be a vegetarian, then you must have a very varied diet, without relying too much on grains and fruits. Vegetables, seaweed, tubers, roots, sprouts, etc, should be included into your diet.

It's easier and safer to have eggs in your diet as a source of protein, because, unlike nuts and beans, eggs have all the necessary aminoacids (components of protein).

Try to eat at least two eggs a day, if possible organic or free-range eggs.

Nuts (walnuts, cashew nuts, almonds, etc) should also be present in your diet, but you must chew them very well, in order to digest them properly.

Eat beans, if you like them, but soak them overnight before cooking them.

Dairy is problematic, but you could try to have some goat's cheese now and then. Avoid milk and yoghurt. Butter, however, is ok.

I don't know why your father made you watch him. Perhaps he wanted to show you how hard life can be. Maybe he didn't mean to impress you so negatively. After all, all life rests upon death or destruction of something or some being. Perhaps over the years you will overcome your aversion toward meat. When you do, try to eat fish instead. Fish are cold-blooded animals and most of them only exist collectively. It's less harmful to kill and eat them.

Good luck.

beans nuts and seeds, protein for you and me....actually there is protein found in many other fruits and vegetables as well....

sometimes PEANUTS or PEANUT butter is a good quick pick me up, if you're feeling down....read the label and buy a brand that is ALL REAL PEANUTS, avoid the other additive stuff if you can help it, unless you have some ailment and you need the stuff.... I mean don't get me wrong there are some people who add "safe" things to their "peanut butters" just be weary of the labels...and as for your DAD, well hope that he can see the light... I was once standing in teh woods myself with a GUN and I was WRONG to have committed MURDER... I was so ILL...

A lot of great answers here. I'd add seitan. It's wheat meat made from gluten. You can get it at whole foods and other natural food stores. It's versatile.

I wish I had it when I was 15 and a veggie because I think at that time I would have found it more palatable than tofu. My mom didn't know how to make good tofu, but the consistency of seitan is closer to meat than anything else. It's super high in protein and low in fat and carbs.

To replace protein you can always take some multivitamins. I am not too big on taking pills, which is probably why i used to bruise very easily and get extremely tired. So now i eat a lot of nuts, i mean a lot a lot, and beans are good too! Also, i have learned to love peanut butter!

Protein is the easiest thing to get since almost everything has it. Whole grains, soy products, cheese (animal rennet free), eggs, beans, nuts etc. Do a google search on protein sources for vegetarians. It's really easy.

One great protein source is Boca burgers - the hamgurger kind - if you put one on a good bun with plenty of fixings - it's really good. Another one is tofu and beans are another. If you are vegetarian you really need to start eating whole grains because whole foods always contain more protein than bleached white bread for instance.

Beans and Nuts are the best alternative to meat. They're rich in protein. Toffu (however its spelt) is great too but not many people like them.
