Am currently taking amitriptyline 25 mg and Gabapentin 300mg for numbness in my feet and legs. Is the neuropathy permanent or some thing I will have to live with?

Please read about some other positive things besides pharmaceuticals that you can use for your problem with diabetic neuropathy, also be aware of the dangers of Neurontin(gabapentin)

I believe it depends on how far it has progressed and how much nerve damage has resulted. Don't give up, whatever you do. Living in misery is very trying (I was depressed for nearly five years). I'm fortunate to have caught and controlled my diabetes before it got out of control. The following is a little preparation I put together to help all diabetics and is well worth the $10.00. While the book does not mention a cure for neuropathy, it will, at the very least, teach you how to eat right, exercise, and keep further damage to a minimum while keeping blood glucose under control.

For type I and type II diabetics...

I've found a wonderful book that will help you control your diabetes and minimize or even eliminate the complications. Some folks who became diabetic due to poor diet and obesity are effectively cured by following the advice in this book. I'm a type II, but it helps all types, especially those who became diabetic due to poor eating habits. It's by an author who has really done his homework, Patrick Quillin, Phd. I have tried his suggestions and found them to be very helpful. I have no complications whatsoever and my blood sugar levels are quite stable. Yes, I still have to take Metformin (Glucophage) daily, but it's the minimum dosage (500mg) and I only have to take it twice a day. I have been off Metformin for as much as a week, but this was with vigorous exercise. Many, what I call, non-hereditary type IIs (those that don't have a recent relative who had it) have gotten off medication completely, just with diet, exercise, and supplements. So, in some instances, it most certainly can be 'effectively' cured.

The book explains what's going on in our system and what to do about it. It's really easy and inexpensive. It's basically diet, supplements and exercise. For example, did you know that cinnamon helps blood sugar absorbtion? It also controls cholesterol and triglycerides. This is according to the USDA: http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/np/fnrb/fnrb0104.htm#pinch

For men: Are you suffering from erectile dysfunction? I was. Yes, WAS. Now that everything's under control, I'm able to have nearly normal sex again.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

I also have diabetes II and had neuropathy. I have taken Gabapentin 300 mg. twice a day for 2 1/2 years now and I have very little tingling and numbness now. I keep my glucose levels low ( below 120) fasting level and not more than 150 the highest point. I used oral medication for a few months but for the past 5 years I've used only diet. GOOD LUCK!

Some people have gotten a degree of relief (depending on the severity of their problem) from drinking monavie juice. See the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine by Murray & Pizzorno for a discussion and advice on dealing with neuropathy and other diabetic problems

Neuropathy in diabetics is common; the 2 drugs you are on are commonly used for diabetic neuropathy. The neuropathy is probably something that will continue....Lyrica is a new drug that is also used to treat diabetic neuropathy. Ask your doc about it if you do not get relief from the amitriptyline or the gabapentin.

Oh I do feel empathy for your condition.
My son has same thing has been in wheelchair for nearly 2yrs now.
He is only 41yrs old
They have told him there can be no improvement in condition.
All you can do is look after your diabetes
Try to get some physical therapy in a swimming pool as the water will help support your weight

diab. neuropathy can get better with better control of the diabetes itself if your DM is already pretty well-controlled, there may not be much improvement. however, you should ask your doctor about Lyrica and Cymbalta, if you feel you need more relief from symptoms at this time. good luck
