If the cough appears early in the morning, say 4-5 a.m. then u need not take any medicine. This is the time when the cleaning system of lungs is at full swing. Hence, it is natural to cough for some people.
Hope you don't smoke and your cough is not smokers'cough.
There is one more reason for night cough and i.e. settlement of dust particles towards the ground in the stationary atmosphere of night, which get into the respiratory system of the sleeping person.

This is probably related to allergies and possibly asthma. It is caused by the mucus draining out of your sinuses and into your throat and lungs. Do you smoke? I ask because I used to, and it really aggravates this condition. If you do, now is the time to quit. Anyway, you could see a doctor for prescription allergy medications if over the counter remedies are not helping you. I have an inhaler that helped me to breathe and stopped the coughing in the middle of the night. That, along with the allergy meds, and quitting smoking seems to have worked. I have not had to use the inhaler this summer at all.

Oh gosh. Have you seen a doctor? If you sleep in an air-conditioned room, it will just get worse. Drink warm water before you sleep. It might help. Have a fan circulating the air instead of having the air-condition on. Cold air makes our lungs contract. That's why we cough mostly at night, not the day.

Remedy depends on what it is.
Night time cough is usually either asthma or GERD (gastroesophageal reflux). If your coughing is exacerbated by exposure to cold air, allergens, strong perfumes, etc. it is more likely asthma, and you need to see a doc. If your coughing seems to be exacerbated by certain foods, or if you get heartburn, it may just be GERD. You could do a trial of Prilosec OTC for a couple weeks to see if it improves. If it does improve, be sure to tell your doc next time you see him, so that he is aware of the situation. If it does not get better, see the doc.

If the air in your bedroom is too dry, this can easily be remedied by using a humidifier. I am assuming you have not been diagnosed with allergies or asthma or sleep apnea

Reflux will cause this also. You may want to try an over the counter remedy and see if it makes a difference.
