How can I tell when the soy milk in my fridge has expired? I don't drink soy milk that often, so even a quart of it tends to sit at the back of my fridge. I also know that the carton says to drink within five to seven days of opening. However, it's sometimes hard to remember exactly when I opened it.

Is there any way to tell by the texture, smell, etc, that soy milk has expired? I've been drinking this stuff for a year now and can never tell until about a half hour after I've drank it. I get a horrible upset stomach.

Real answers only, please.

Just an FYI, the "7-10 days" is only a legal thing for the manufacturer. Soy milk can last for weeks after opened, if kept in a tightly sealed container in a cold fridge. Best way to tell if it's been spoiled is the way it pours (smooth like water, not lumpy), smells/tastes bad or has changed color.

Hmm, that's a difficult one.

Next time you have a container of soy milk that you KNOW has expired since the 5-7 days you opened it, keep it around and pour a glass. Then take a fresh container and open it and pour a glass.

Compare the two and find out if you can learn a difference.

It curdles like milk and gets sour smell and sour-tangy sort of taste. It's best to get small packs rather a litre pack and finish whatever you open within the same day. Soy milk spoils faster than milk.

milk and soy milk shows their expiry the same way, it curdles. except that soy milk spoils faster than milk. sometimes it's possible to curdle as soon as 1 day after it's been open. the smell and taste would be sour-ish and hits the back of your nose after a huge whiff. i would always buy single serve cartons so i only open what i drink. this avoids wastage rather of you were to buy a 1 litre bottle and only drink 2 glasses that day. sure it's cheaper than individual packs, but think of the wasted soy milk that you didn't drink and had to throw out.

I like Vanilla Soy milk ! ! ! Soy milk sometimes while you pour instead of pouring like a milk, it clumps or pours like a melted chocolate or melted caramel.

Good soy milk pours like water, Expired one pours like clumped milk or stringed one.... Trust me you can see the expired one.

Oh did I tell you I lovvvvve SoyJuice(I mean Soy milk). I love Vanilla Soy Juice. I drink it as a meal, or have it with breakfast cereal. Used it as milk replacement in cooking. I have no complaints from my friends or myself.

It curdles and will be in lumps rather than smooth liquid. Also it will have a sour taste and smell.

When it is already sour or has turned into a thick yellowish color indicating increase in bacteria or fermentation.
