Hi I am 38years old and have been on high blood pressure tablets for nearly 3 months but as yet they have failed to lower my blood pressure. i am only on 25mg a day. Something happend tonight that really worried me. I started to get a pain in my upper stomach area, into my chest and the pain moved up into the bottom of my neck, in my throat. this eased up after less than a minute, then after another 15 to 20 minutes it happened again, but the pain moved into my back as well. which lasted for about 1 minute, then went, then about another 20 minutes later, it happend again but the pain didnt go up my chest or throat but just upper stomach into my back. the pain wasnt as severe as the 2nd time, and lasted half a minute, not im worried it is something to do with my heart. like angina or something like that, or could it be something like trapped wind?or colic of some kind? touch wood i havent had it for about an hour now. this happend about 2 hours after dinner, and all i had was bland food.

I worry because my dad died of a massive heart attack at 69 years.and i do tend to worry about it. i have also been having hot sweats on and off for a week or so, but havent had any difficulty breathing. i have also been having a lot of stress recently with all different worries, could this be causing it?. i will be making an appointment tomorrow morning anyway just to be on the safe side.

It sounds more like your esophagus or stomach acid reflux. I get that same kind of pain and thought it was my heart. I also suffer with very high blood pressure. My father also past away 2 1/2 years ago from a massive heart attack. I even ended up in the ER. My doctor did all kinds of test on me and my heart looked fine they said. So they did an endoscopy to have my Esophagus checked and they told me I have Barrettes Esophagus. And that can cause pain like your going to have a heart attack. May be they should check your Esophagus.

It could easily be indigestion - spicy food isn't the only cause.

However - and please don't panic - given your history of high blood pressure I think you should go and see your doctor in the morning (or call him out tonight if it happens again). The symptoms you have described could be angina.

But, bear in mind that 38 is very young for a woman to have heart trouble - unusually so - so that probably isn't the cause. But it's better to be safe than sorry.

EXTRA: Having read your extra bit - be careful that you don't bring the symptoms on by worrying about it. Anxiety can make you have all sorts of aches and pains. But you are right to see the doctor tomorrow - he'll be able to reassure you.

If You Are Worried See Your Doctor, That Would Be The Right Thing To Do Don't Try And Second Guess Things Only Makes You Worry.

You should have yourself checked by a doctor. While indigestion and heart attack have symptoms similar to what you described, the fact that you have high blood pressure that hasn't normalized is enough.

3 weeks of medication should show a change in your condition. You should even see slight changes within one week of taking your medicines. You should have your medication changed or your dosage adjusted.

Stress is the root of all sickness. Sometimes we are stressed out so often that our bodies forget to relax and that's where the trouble begins.

Look into ways of relieving stress (though with your high blood pressure, exercise is not an option). Yoga breathing should help.

Sounds more like indigestion, a heart attack apparently feels like you have an elephant standing on your chest. Angina is usually brought on by activity and eases off when you rest. I would see your GP just to make sure though, if you are worried.

my dad suffered with trapped wind. the first time it happened it was in spasms like you have described.

we called an ambulance because it was so pain full for him we thought he was having a heart attack.

i think you should go to your Doctor tomorrow if it has stopped or to the emergency doctor if it happens again tonight .

you don't want to be sorry do you. I'm sure the people that love you would like you to be checked out too.

it's not fair to them if you don't x

If you're in the UK and you're really worried about this and can't wait to see your Dr in the morning. Try giving NHS direct a ring.

It is best to get professional advice.

In the meantime try not too worry too much.

Take care

I would call a doctor. Since hardattacks run in the family, I would have you heart checked every 6-12 months.

Sounds like acid reflux, a friend of mine suffers with very similar symptoms and has been prescribed acid tablets which have worked a treat.
Try gaviscon if it happens again.
