Im not a vegetarian or a vegan but i respect the fact that you are. Its healthier than eating meats but i love the taste so im gonna die happy. Plus my ex-girlfriend was a vegatarian and if she even had one ounce of beef in any thing wheter it be beef broth or a piece of steak, her body couldnt digest it and explosive dirreah was the result. Not to be gross but i really dont want to have a bad reaction to something after not eating it for a while. i have thought about going vegetarian a few times but just cant stand to think of having a bowl of soup and wondering where the nearest facility is

Well, think of it this way. You are, by being veggie, inherently disagreeing with their lifestyle. You may not ever say or think as much, but people know that vegetarianism, in essence, disagrees with the way they live.
If you're a veggie for health reasons, however dubious, you are suggesting that their diet is unhealthy. If for moral reasons, they feel you are suggesting you are immoral (some people say as much, which wouldn't help matters). People don't like it being suggested that their lifestyle is wrong or immoral or unhealthy, as is almost always the reason for vegetarianism (ever wonder why people never have a problem with those who don't like the taste). Either way it is implying that you think your diet is superior, so thus you think theirs is inferior. No one wants their diet to be though of as inferior by anyone, and I think they react to that, in exactly the same way you react to the implication that yours is weird, as then they are implying yours is inferior.

I think there's a hefty bit of all veggies being associated with PETA style nutters and hippies too.

I don't think I'm like that, I just disagree with it in the same way veggies disagree with meat.

If you were living in a vegetarian society, people would look at you like a weirdo if you told them that you ate meat. The simple fact is that the majority of people are not vegetarian, so, by definition, you are outside the norm. You may also be over-reacting, Members of any minority seem to have a tendency to be defensive. Not all of us who eat meat regard vegetarians as "weirdos."

from a meat eaters point of view..........(both are personal choices and should be respected by both parties) There are so many vegetarians who try to ":convert" us, on some crusade like it's a religion and complain about us eating meat. Neither are going to change. It's time to stop the BS between the 2 and let people eat what they want.

It's not weird. I eat meat and love the taste. People might think you're "weird" for giving up something so flavorful. It also depends where you live. In San Francisco there are so many vegans. But somewhere in the Mideast where the beef industry is their income, they may look at you weird.

same thing happens to me! it's weird because if someone says they're going vegetarian for health reasons, then everyone is happy for them. but if you're going vegetarian because of animal rights, everyone thinks you're crazy. it's like only a crazy person could be kind and actually care about other living things other than themselves!

I often wonder for what reason one would choose to deprive 'emself of meats!? Is it for health, political or religious reasons? What is the meaning behind this? It clearly states in the bible that we are above the annimals and we are to take dominion above. It also states that there is now no annimal considered "unclean".
