There are actually more than two categories of living things in biology, but the other kingdoms are mainly single-celled and /or microscopic organisms. Mushrooms and other fungi would be a notable exception. But yes, you're right that fish are part of the animal kingdom and that a true vegetarian eats no dead members of the animal kingdom. Meat is animal flesh, fish are animals, and fish are therefore meat.

How can some people argue that fish is no meat? Meat is flesh and fish have flesh, there are vains running through them and they bleed. I am always amazed how badly informed some people are, this is something everyone learns at primary school.
In biology you have flora (fruits, veggies, etc.) and fauna (all animals, such as all invertebrate and vertebrate life on this planet, which are insects, worms, horse, dogs, humans, etc.)
Why do people have to make such stupid comments about them eating meat? Do they feel more masculine? Does it give them a feeling of power and superiority over us "softies" eating veggies.

Supposedly fish isn't considered a meat because of the Catholic church, during the middle ages I believe, declared fish eligible to eat during Lent. The only reason they did this was to help the fishing industry.
And for those who say well chicken isn't meat, because it's poultry, etc...Well in the same sense cow is not meat, it is beef, pig is not meat it is pork...

Of course fish is meat! People who say they're vegetarian but eat fish are kidding themselves. It's like saying that an insect isn't a animal (even though it obviously is)

Yes, clearly when you eat a fish you are eating muscle and other tissues... meat, in other words.
But there are many peopole who call themselves vegetarians yet will stoop to eating fish. Odd, that.
A guy I know (a chef) calls them 'piscetarians' after 'pisces' - the fish. Kinda fits better than veggie.

It's only stupid vegetarian wannabees who say that fish isn't meat.
Sort of like the ones that say that only red meat counts as meat, so it's OK to eat chicken.
Right!

Its fish meat so its fish is a living animal.
The problem is theose who are veggie likes meat so much that they don't want to recognize it even and they lean on FISH saying its not meat. Because tehy linger for a pork hamburger or a chicken one.... so at least they can lean on a fish one... LOL

The Encarta Dictionary defines meat as "the flesh of animal that is considered edible....the edible part of a fruit or nut." Since a fish is an animal that is considered to be edible, I would say that fish is meat.

Meat is supposed to be another word for flesh that does not sound as disgusting. Vegetarians do not eat flesh and fish has flesh. Period.
The catholic church seems to make up their own rules to what suits them.
