When I am not using my humidity feature do I need distilled water?

Well, you might try it, but even without the humidity feature, there will be passive evaporation of the water and the residue could accumulate and eventually clog up the works. I know it is sometimes difficult to get to the store to get distilled or deionized water, but if it will prolong the life of your machine, you might want to consider stocking up on it.

I don't think one or two nights will hurt that much, but don't make it a habit.

yes it will otherwise void your warranty if you had to purchase it and get repairs on your dime. There are several ideas on how to make distilled water yourself and I know that if you buy water from a store that advertises reverse osmosis filtering you are fine. Let the water sit and most minerals and sediments that could possibly remain willl settle to the bottom of the bottle. Just don't use the last 1/2 inch of water. Put that on the plants in your house as they will love the minerals and sediments.

Absolutely! The machine is made to use distilled water. Also if you don't use it the warranty will be void.
