This is a difficult question to answer because there are so many different answers.

People who have diabetes can drink safely as long as they are smart about it. Some alcohol will raise your blood glucose levels almost immediately because they contain so much sugar, some will not. The most important thing to remember is that the end result of drinking alcohol is going to be a drop in glucose levels.

I drink here and there and even if my blood sugar is 180 before bed after having a few drinks I need to have a snack or my glucose will drop overnight. This happened to me last weekend. I went to a wedding, had a few rum and diet cokes, didn't have a snack and woke up at 4am with a blood glucose reading of 38.

If you have concerns you should talk to your doctor and read this article:

There is a direct correlation between the consumption of alcohal, an alcohol derivitive, and patience. Patience, as everyong knows, is a virtue. The Chinese philosopher, Won Hung Lo said,

Patience is a virtue
Have it if you can
Never in a woman
Seldom in a man

Of course, Won Hung Lo was writing before alcohal was invented. So, he couldn't have known that it affects male and females equally. Whether man or woman, alcohal kills those who have diabetes.

And, the most patient people alive today are dead.

I actually do research related to diabetes and antidiabetic drugs, so I know a little more about this than the average person off the street. My research concerns only type-2 diabetes, so that's what I'll talk about below. Unfortunately, I haven't read of any positive side effects of being diabetic. It's actually really awful in a lot of ways, and I don't want to get you more down than you're already feeling about it, so I don't have to go into details, but let's just say that diabetes is responsible for a lot of really serious problems that you'd probably rather avoid. The only really great thing about type 2 diabetes is that it can be avoided and managed with healthy lifestyle. So even if you're already diabetic, you can reverse a lot of the bad things that are happening to your body simply by losing weight, eating healthier, and being more active. So take that little bit of inspiration, and if you have type 2, do everything you can to get healthy and to stay healthy. You have a lot more control over this than you may realize, if you just do what it takes to get fit and healthy. Good luck!

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

alcohol beverages such as beer and wine have a lot of regular sugars in them (sucrose, fructose, glucose).
Liquors without flavoring (which usually cantains sugars) have alcohol sugars (sorbitol) that the body processes slower or not at all.
The beer and wine are bad for diabetics since the body will easily break down and utilize the simple sugars in them, thus, raising their blood sugar and possibly causing insulin shock; while the sorbitol, which takes longer to break down, will more than likely be passed out of the body through urination.

It is recommended that diabetics not drink alcohol. But, if they want to, they should talk with their doctor about the safety precautions of doing so.

Drinking beer will cause a diabetic to go low.

After going to the bars my diabetic boyfriend will have a glass of juice or a snack before going to bed.

I once woke up to him having a seizure; caused from low blood sugars. The night before he didn't have anything before he went to sleep. BIG MISTAKE!! (He is OK now, but that was the scariest thing either of us have been through.)

Please read this article. It's really informative about drinking alcohol and what it does to your blood sugars. And contrary to what most people believe, alcohol can lower your blood sugars, but at the same time have enough calories to shoot up those blood glucose numbers.
