My housekeeper was complaining of backache. We took her to a local clinic where they gave her an injection for the pain on her behind. They said it could be that one of her vertabrae has shifted. The site of the injection has now gotten infected and has a crater like hole that is oozing puss. Could this be a sign that she has aids or could it be related to something else?

Very doubtful it's Aids.
There are several possibilities:
1. The site she got the injection wasn't cleaned properly, and bacteria got in along with the medication.

2. She got dirt or bacteria in the injection site after the injection, leading to infection.

3. It could be a localized reaction to the medication, and not an infection at all.

It does not sound like AIDS or any other STD.. it sounds like she merely has an infected wound site. ( Merely doesn't mean no big deal) There could be several things that made this happen. Not sterilizing the injection site, dirty needle, not taking proper care of the injection site. She could have necrotizing fasciitis. Take her to a reputable doctor and have her looked at. A week of antibiotics will help clear up any infection from bacteria. He will also be able to tell you if it could be something more serious.

no its not a sign of aids its a sign of infection almost certainly caused by one of three things,,
1)the clinic should have used a medi swab to clean the injection site before giving it, this is a cardinal sin in some practicies and can cause problems like you are describing,
2)The needle used to administer the pain killer was not sterile(unlikely)
3)The injection has not been administered properly and maybe they have actually caught a small blood vessel with the needle, they should have inserted the needle thwen withdrew the plunger (if any blood appears a new site should be found)
This poor woman needs to see a proper doctor to have this infection attended to as it will only get worse,, it probabily need iv antibiotics and possible it needs lanced if its been left to long,,
dont delay getting this poor woman help any longer

thanks

Oh sounds weird. could be an immune problem. Does she have cancer or is she on chemo? What was the clinic like what is reputable? It could be a problem with the clinic or she was allergic to the injection too. They might have contaminated the injection site or used poor sterile technique or used a contaminated mutiplue dose container. It could be anything. i would get her back in. I could also be a reaction to what they gave her a steroid. I would get her to a different clinic and get it checked out. It is not necessarily the fault of her body. It might be a bad clinic or a reaction to the drug. Find out what they gave her.

Does not sound like AIDS at all but could be very serious as it sounds like the injection went between the vertebra which means the infection could be as deep as that. She needs to go back...probably oral antibiotics at a minimum...and maybe IV, other stuff...

It's obviously infected. No, AIDS has nothing to do w/ it. Go to hospital ASAP. Injections usually go deep into the body and an infection can get very bad, very fast!

l would say a dirty needle, she may have scratched it and got some dirt in it, or she could be allergic to either the needle or whatever you were injected with. She should get it checked out ASAP.

if the needle is dirty or the part on which injected is not cleaned, germs gain entry into the area and lead to infection

Not sterlizing the area where the needle was injected or using a old needle.

It is likely just an infection. She needs antibiotics NOW!!! If left untreated it could resolve on its own or she could die of sepsis. See a doctor now!
