Yes you can. Cold sores (herpes simplex virus 1) is very common to be passed by kissing. Also, HIV (rare) and syphilis (rare).
You can also get a lot of illnesses by kissing. Strep throat and mono (Mononucleosis) are commonly spread by kissing. Mono is even called the "kissing disease" or the "kissing bug" (herpes was formally known has the "kissing disease").
If you are your partner are feeling ill, avoid kissing until you are both feeling better, this goes for even a cold. By French kissing you are exchanging saliva which carries germs.
