I have a heart murmur. Pulmonary Stenosis to be exact. I was wondering if I can go on Rollercoaster or can't. My parents always told me I shoudln't but I've never heard a doctor tell me I can't. I have no idea. So, I was wondering if any of you can help me out here. Can I ever go on a rollercoaster? If I can't, then why? And what would happen if I did?

Remember I have a Heart Murmur.... Pulmonary Stenosis.

Alright, I still have the murmuer and I have to go to Childrens Hospital in Philiadelphia every 2 years for checkups.

I had to get a balloon dilation when I was 5 years old. (Surgery)

depends on how bad it is. Some people could go on a roller coaster and it wouldnt bother them. others it might. Hell, a person perfectly healthy could have health problems on some roller coasters. Roller coasters raise your adrenyline levels dramatically and also your blood pressure. There are a lot of negative G's (Forces times Gravity) on roller coasters and depending on the levels, even a perfectly healthy person could have a heart attack. Without being able to see your EKG's or heart levels I would not be nor would anyone else be able to give you a personal diagnostic. You would need to see a doctor to get a straight answer. If you choose not to, then take it slow. Dont just jump on the most dangerous and exciting ride you can find. Try a little one first and work your way up. Take a 1/2 hour break between rides (and with the lines that wont be a big problem) Make sure to check your pulse after the ride and make sure that when you step off the ride you are not going over 120 bpm's. Have fun!

you might ask your doctor, but i don't see why not. My grandson has a pulmonary stenosis, and the doctor told us to let him do anything he wants. If they haven'tdone any proceedures to fix it, it probably isn't that bad.
here is a definition:

Note: It will be helpful to review normal heart function before reading this.)

The pulmonary valve opens to let blood flow from the right ventricle to the lungs. Narrowing of the pulmonary valve (valvar pulmonary stenosis) causes the right ventricle to pump harder to get blood past the blockage. If the stenosis is severe, especially in babies, some cyanosis (blueness) may occur. Older children usually have no symptoms.

Treatment is needed when the pressure in the right ventricle is high (even though there may be no symptoms). In most children the obstruction can be relieved during cardiac catheterization by balloon valvuloplasty. In this procedure, a special catheter containing a balloon is placed across the pulmonary valve. The balloon is inflated and the valve is stretched open. In other patients surgery may be needed. During surgery the valve can usually be opened so that it works well again.

Only your doctor can clear you on that one....would you really want to go on a roller coaster and find out without asking you doctor?

a roller coaster alone won't hurt but it is how you handle the excitement...you may not be able to handle it....talk with your doctor before you try anything you have to question

i wouldn't chance it...i am assuming you wouldn't because of the adrenaline and intense emotions involved in riding a roller coaster, plus the physical strain on your body. so no, don't do it until you get your doc's approval.
