Im just wondering how much recovery is required after a catheter ablation. Im having one done for Supraventricular tachycardia. When can I go back to my normal activities such as work and volunteering as an EMT and school? Am I going to be sore after the procedure? Will I be resting the next couple days or the next couple weeks? I really wanna know. I am only 18 and I dont want to be bed ridden.

I had the same procedure just over a month ago. I was released from hospital 4 hours after the procedure, and sent home with the instructions to do pretty much nothing the next day, but back to near-normal activity the day after. Just don't do anything strenuous (heavy lifting, exercising) for the next couple weeks. I was a little sore, and be prepared for bruising the likes of which you've never seen, but you'll hardly be bedridden. As medical procedures go, this one's pretty easy to take. You'll definitely be able to go back to work after a day or 2 (provided your work is not physically strenuous) so don't worry about it. Just take care of the insertion sites & keep an eye on them just to be sure.

You will likely be asked to take a daily aspirin for a month or two after the procedure. You will likely be told not to exert for a day or two and not to drive for a few days. You'll have mild bruising at the catheter insertion site. No big deal. Good luck.

I think you will be advised to rest up for 3 or 4 days afterward, to let the ablated area of the heart to properly scar, as well as to let the site where they insert the catheter to heal up somewhat. Your cardiologist should provide you verbally, and in writing, the recommendations and what you should expect in way of recovery times.
