Men usually don't have symptoms. That is why they pass it on so easily to women, they don't realize they have it. There is currently no test for men to detect HPV. Men usually find out they have HPV by developing genital warts. This can take months and even years to develop though.
I have had HPV for over 5 years. About 8 months ago I developed genital warts. It took about 4 and 1/2 years for them to develop! Men can have HPV for many years and pass it on for years until they realize they have it.
I have read about 75-80% of the world has HPV, while only about 20some% of them realize they have it.

Condoms are 99% effective so that means there is always a chance. Sorry, not sure what the symptons are.
