i went to a party and there was some very delicious pasta...the sauce is kind of brown, and it was on penne pasta

Penna ala vodka?
With portebella? That will answer why the sauce turned brown?

Very likely Peanut sauce. It's some times served at Thai restaurants. Some of them actually make it peanutbutter.

PEANUT SAUCE
1/3 cup 100% peanut butter
1 Tsp. garlic powder
2 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 Tbsp. soy sauce
1 Tsp. sugar
1/3 cup water
Sprinkle of cayenne to taste
1. Place the ingredients in a bowl. Stir well. Microwave for 30 seconds.
2. Pour over chicken and/or noodles or another of your favorite dishes.

it was sausage of cuttlefish, it also can looks black.. it looks awfull but it's good.
