Chlamydia is caused by the bacteria chlamydia trachomatis.
About half of all men and three-quarters of all women who have Chlamydia have no symptoms and do not know that they are infected. However, it can cause vaginal bleeding and discharge, abdominal pain, fever and inflammation of the cervix in women.
And in men, it can cause a watery or milky discharge from the penis, swollen or tender testicles and a burning feeling while urinating. The long term complications can be severe, especially for women where it can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility. Between 20% and 50% of children born to women with chlamydia will be infected.
Chlamydia is the leading cause of neonatal conjunctivitis, an eye infection in babies that can cause blindness.
However, it is easy to treat with antibiotics.
Please see the webpages for more details on Chlamydia.

Should not if properly treated
"Because Chlamydia is so common and because it often doesn't produce symptoms, it is especially important to take precautions against sexually transmitted infections by practicing safer sex." (Wikipedia)
These organisms can be acquired from wife or husband who may not be having sysmptoms and you may think that this is reservoir
Islam is the best code of life and those practice Islam do not suffer from STDs etc.

yes can be. one can have asymptomatic chlamydia infection .
so the treatment for asystomatic infection is best syndromic management-i.e.giving combination of medicine to ward of the infection. chlamydia can be cured by Tab azithromycin 1gram stat.(but better taking with Tab. cifixime400 mg stat.will treat asymptomatic gonorrhea also)

yeah, most of the time you have it and dont even realize it until its too late..thats why its good to have yearly pap smears (if your a female) and ask to be tested for STD's. doctors wont think it is embarrassing either.

chlamydia can show little or no effect for YEARS- internally, however, you can lose your ability to create children- get checked! it's one that can actually be treated!
