Hi! I've been a vegetarian for 2 years and I'm as happy as can be! Something I didn't see mentioned already is that you can't eat marshmallows or gummi products, all contain gelatin (A colorless or slightly yellow, transparent, brittle protein formed by boiling the specially prepared skin, bones, and connective tissue of animals and used in foods, drugs, and photographic film). I wish I could find vegetarian gummies in stores! I HIGHLY recommend Morningstar Farms products, which are in the freezer section of the grocery store. My favorite products include Grillers Original (cooked well), griller crumbles (AWESOME in tacos), and the sausage. Even my meat eating boyfriend and family love it! Good luck, you're making an excellent choice! Your body will thank you for it!

MorningStar farms has alot of fake meat products.. veggie burgers, chik patties, etc. Also, make sure you take a multivitamin and especially vitamin B12.. to make up for what you are missing not eating meat. Eat a variety of veggies and fruits and nuts. If there is a Trader Joes in your area, go there, they have a lot of food catering to vegetarians (or find a local veggie friendly market in your area) Good luck!!

The Mayo Clinic has a good guide, as follows:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/vegetarian-diet/HQ01596
I would also recommend going to Culinary Chef at http://www.culinarychef.com for recipes and special occasion menus (though not strictly vegetarian, the site does offer many vegetarian recipes).
There are those who talk about vegetarianism as unhealthy, or not nutritious enough for people. That is such nonesense. So long as you know what to eat, and there is a lot of things you can eat as a vegetarian (more difficult when vegan) that can provide 100% nutrition for your body, at any age.

yay for vegetarians!! some skittles have gelatin :( just learn to read the ingredients list of everything (which people should probably do anyways lol), ask at restaurants if there's meat (or fish...which i think should be called meat considering it's muscle) in something...never be afraid to ask, you have the right to know exactly what you're eating. alot of other people have recommended excellent websites too. enjoy

Don't eat meat or/and anything that has to do with meat. That is what a vegetarian is! When you have a craving for meat eat a Veggie Burger. It isnt really meat, but healthy!
Good

whey- by-product of cheese
cochineal- food colouring made from beetles
gelatine- made from bones, found in jelly sweets etc

Stopping eating meat means that you have to find your sources of protein from non-meat substitutes from now on. I suggest nuts, beans, soy, and tofu.
