My friends an I were talking. One friend said that Chinese and Vietnamese people eat cat meat and rodent meat. She said that an epidemic in China called Sars came from eating cats. If its true, do those cultures follow that tradition in the USA.

Yes, Asians do eat meat from animals that we don't. This is also true for people from other places too. To my knowledge, SARS is not the result of eating cat meat. People in the far east have been eating feline meat for centuries without a SARS outbreak. I am sure some people from the far east who have relocated here do still eat dog, rat, and maybe cat meat. Just because we see them as pets, doesn't mean that we should judge them for their taste in meats.

yes it is true. you have to remember at certain times there was nothing else to eat. The soccer team went down on a plane in the andes mountains and finally ate each other. in india many people don't eat meat, they don't understand why we kill animals for food. i personally eat everything. last week in japan i had kobe beef which was excellent, but before that i ate the tongue of the cow. the cheeks of a fish are considered the best part in asia. americans usually like the side meat. We don't like dogs because they are pets, Mans Best Friend, Asian Indians don't eat cows because in could be a reincarnated relative. Just eat whatever they put on your plate. It would be rude not to.

I knew Koreans who were living in the US and knew of places where they could get dog meat. I don't think any culture should be criticized for the food they eat - Americans are a little too concerned with what other people are doing. As long as they are not abducting and eating people's pets, or stealing livestock - I don't see the problem.

Yes they eat domestic animals, but no, that is not what caused SARS.

Ask anyone American who lives where Vietnamese or Chinese people live, and they will tell you there used to be stray dogs or cats roaming, but not since the V or C moved in. I've heard that from numerous people. I guess they're providing a service, as animal control is overworked. I just hope they kill them humanely.

Some years ago a retaurant was closed down when dozens of large rat were discovered in it's storage room. They were in cages and were being bred there for consumption. This apparently, was a delicacy in the owner's country of origin.
