PAD is not a trivial disease. You should be following the instructions of your physician, not self-prescribing. If you're having problems paying for your prescriptions, ask your doctor if there is a generic or OTC medication he might prescribe. Also, check with the drug manufacturer; many of them have special programs to help people who can't afford to pay. Also, some supermarkets and mass marketers such as Walmart or Costco have special programs to offer all prescriptions on their approved list for a very low cost flat rate charge, often $4 or $5 per prescription. Walmart has a list of medications that are a flat $8 per prescription. Also, tell your doctor that you're having problems affording your prescription, and ask him if perhaps he might have some professional samples he could give you. Also, check with your County Health Department; they often have special prescription programs for low income people who can't afford their meds. If you work with your doctor to prescribe something on the list of low-cost meds, and explore your options, you'll probably find something you can afford.

INDICATIONS

TRENTAL is indicated for the treatment of patients with intermittent claudication on the basis of chronic occlusive arterial disease of the limbs. TRENTAL can improve function and symptoms but is not intended to replace more definitive therapy, such as surgical bypass, or removal of arterial obstructions when treating peripheral vascular disease.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

The usual dosage of TRENTAL in controlled-release tablet form is one tablet (400 mg) three times a day with meals.
While the effect of TRENTAL may be seen within 2 to 4 weeks, it is recommended that treatment be continued for at least 8 weeks. Efficacy has been demonstrated in double-blind clinical studies of 6 months duration.
Digestive and central nervous system side effects are dose related. If patients develop these effects it is recommended that the dosage be lowered to one tablet twice a day (800 mg/day). If side effects persist at this lower dosage, the administration of TRENTAL should be discontinued.

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Trental.

Trental's side effects are fairly uncommon.
