No salt and watch the prepared foods, like beans and such in a can, cause they have plenty of salt added. Eat a balanced diet, cut the fried foods back and above all, take your medication.

The medicine works as long as you help it by cutting added salt. You can also, if its is pedial edema (swelling of feet and ankles) get in a recliner and lay back as often as you can during the day. Having your feel on the floor, causes fluid to pool easier so, relax, eat right, and elevate those legs when you can.

Salts have more to do with edema than just "meat".

also making sure you have a balance diet with lots of fruits and veggies is always a good idea.

edema might resulted from heart diseases or low blood albumin.
If it's due to heart disease, less salt in the food.
if it's due to low blood albumin, eat more the white portion of the egg. dont eat the yolk because it contains high cholesterol

AVOID eating foods that are high in salt or sodium. These foods may make your body retain even more water. Many convenience and snack foods contain lots of salt, including canned soups, dry soup mixes, canned meat or fish, ham, bacon, sausage, salted nuts or peanut butter, instant cooked cereals, salted butter or margarine, processed meats (like deli meats or hot dogs), prepared food mixes (like pancake, muffin, or cornbread mix), prepackaged frozen dinners that contain more than 400 mg of sodium in one serving, preseasoned mixes (like taco, gravy, chili, rice, or sauce mix), snack foods (like pretzels, potato chips, olives, cheeses, pickles), salad dressings, and fast foods.
AVOID cooking with monosodium glutamate (MSG), baking soda, baking powder, or salty seasonings like bouillon cubes, cooking sherry, cooking wine, chili sauce, meat tenderizer, seasoned salts, soy sauce, steak sauce, or Worcestershire sauce. These products contain lots of sodium and may worsen edema.

I'm not real sure, but I would guess chicken and/or fish that are cooked without sodium would be good for you.
