There are many factors when considering a murmur, if you are young, it is usually nothing to worry about and you may "Out grow" it. If you are older it may be a valve problem but in either case the family doctor should already be aware of it.

"If the Dr. isn't worried about it you shouldn't worry about it"

A heart murmur is not usually genetic - but there are some genetic conditions that may cause a murmur - like Marfan's syndrome.
