Because they need other vitamins that veggies don't offer. Don't get me wrong, being a vegetarian isn't wrong. It's ok, as long as you take supplemental vitamins. But not everybody does. Probably causing them to be unhealthy.

Huh, I guess your vegetarian friends are probably really low on protein. That happens when someone is new at vegetarianism and don't know what to eat yet. The vegetarians I know are all infinitly healthier than any of the meat eaters I know. It comes down to how much toxic crap people put into their bodies, meat of course being the hardest on the system.

I know many vegetarians and none of them, including myself look unhealthy. Most of the answers given here are quite ignorant. Any person, vegetarian or not must eat a balanced healthy diet to be and look healthy. There is PLENTY of protein available to vegetarians as well as all other nutrients and it's not hard getting them either.

Why is this ignorant question asked every single frickin' day? I have been veg for 20 years and if you passed me on the street you would NOT pick me out of a crowd as a veg based on your narrow view of us all looking unhealthy. I am healthy and I look healthy. As do every single other vegetarian I know (my mother, my sister, my boss, his son, and countless Hare Krishna kids I went to school with.) My diet is a healthy one; I know what nutrition my body needs and I nourish it to keep it healthy.
I don't criticize what you eat; why do so many meat eaters feel compelled to come here and criticize us?

I think it's the complete opposite. I think you're just used to looking at overweight people who can't control their awful eating habits! I look fabulous! I have muscles and I'm lean! :)
Note to everyone: Vegetarian's get plenty of protein, so stop asking!

Meh, they CAN be healthy, if their diet is VERY carefully planned and they take supplements or fortified foods for the vitamins that are only in meat (like B12). If they aren't careful enough they can be very unhealthy.

Probably because they aren't getting all of the nutrients that the body requires to maintain a healthy status. Most of them don't get enough protein but don't realize that by blending certain foods you can make sure that you get all of the amino acids required to complete protein.

because not all vegetarian foodstuff are healthy, and not all vegetarians eat healthy. some may not be aware they're consuming too much grease. or some over-indulge on sweets, too much sugar is no good too.
