Take little 3 by 5 inch cards, fold them in half to make little "tents" and write on one side with the name of the dish and the chef.

That's frightening if you have food no one can identify. Just kidding, lol. What you can go is, go to a stationery store, get the little label cards for place settings (they come in packs for the printer, just like business or greeting cards do). You can even find different styles. Create the word document from the "tool" icon at the top of your window, select letters and mailings, it will lead you to envelopes and labels. There will be a number on the top of your label packet. Once you click your selection, be sure you choose labels. Go to options, there will be a list of many label types with their product number. Find your product number, select it. Then click new document. DO NOT FILL IN THE BLANK BOX - LEAVE IT BLANK. Choose "New Document", your screen will show a format of your labels. Type a food item in each one. You can do fancy fonts and colors, if you have a color printer. If not, black lettering is just fine. It will give a very strong and sleek appearance.

You probably know word better than I do. Best wishes!

Create some Table tent cards - Use pictures to identify if it's a appetizer, meat dish, dessert, etc. Leave a blank area on each one to write in the name of the dish as each guest hands it to you on arrival. This will be a great ice breaker for anyone coming that you may not already know. Have Fun!

Great ideas here - why not take it a step further? Ask guests to bring the recipe for their dish and after the party is over, type the recipes up and give everyone a booklet of said recipes. What a nice gift. (of course this would not be done until a week or so later)

Have fun!

One good thing to have in regards to signs is ingredient signs like if someone is allergic to peanuts and there are dishes with peanut oil or sauce, it's a good thing to know these things.

Just being cautious of others health is the main thing. Most foods can readily be identified, it's what's in them that may hurt!

Go to the Dollar Store adn buy little 3"x4" or 3"x5" photo frames. Put the same paper inside. Then write on teh glass w/ a Sharpie pen (or on the paper, whatever) what your dish is. Remove the permanent Sharpie ink w/ rubbing alcohol, and keep for your next party.

Get blank laminated cards. Have the people write what the dish is on it with a Sharpy pen. You could use the kind of stands that are used for holding place settings cards.

I make my own cards using those black paper clips..the sturdy kind that are a black plastic "wedge" with the wine tong thingys? Use a marker to write the labels on cardstock or index cards in the color of your theme. Then put each card in the black paper clip, with the flat bottom of the clips on the table. (I wish I could think of what they are actually called, it's driving me crazy! :) The clip will hold the card in an upright position for easy reading. They are great! Plus, you won't be heartbroken if you lose one.

Get some construction paper at the dollar store and cut it into recatngles. Fold them in half lengthwise and... Your own little place cards. Now for the writing, I would use a marker so no one has to strain their eyes in the sunlight. It's a barbeque, so you don't need to use calligraphy, just print as nice and clear as you can!! Good luck and have a wonderful time!!!

Hello,

So many of those answers were too predictable (Although, I liked the sarcasm with the folded crane thing)... So I have to offer my own suggestion.

SPRAY PAINT!

Make a bold statement. I will guarantee you they will be talking about your barbecue for summers to come!

Hugs and Smoochies,
