First off, don't be so neurotic about sanitizing every inch of your body every minute of the day. Your immune system is like a muscle, and if you kill off every bit of bacteria all the time, your body loses its ability to fight off infections and colds. Besides, colds are caused by viruses, and antibacterial soap doesn't kill viruses anyway.

To get rid of your cold fast (and by fast I mean 1-2 days, not one afternoon), eat a good meal, drink a lot of fluids, and stay away from alcohol.

To fight infection, your body first produces more white blood cells to smother and kill the virus. Failing that, your core temperature rises, causing a fever. It takes an incredible amount of energy to raise your body temperature just a few degrees, and the rest of your body isn't used to being that hot. This is where the aches and fatigue come from when you have a fever.

To compound things, when you feel like crap you're not hungry, so you don't give your body the extra calories it needs to keep the temperature up. Everything tastes bad, but you really need to eat!

So if you could get all the benefits of a fever without using so much energy, would you do it? Take a hot bath! Seriously, at the first sign of getting sick, like just being really tired for no reason and losing your appetite, go pour yourself a tub full of the hottest water you can stand with a few tablespoons of Epsom salts (to hold off the "pruning" effect). Sip on ice water to keep from overheating, but you want to stay in the tub for a good 30-40 minutes, or until your forehead is sweating a lot.

Get out of the tub, eat a good meal, and get a good night's sleep. The next day, drink a lot of water to flush out all the junk you killed the night before. You'll feel better, and should be back to normal in no time.

Airborne and Vitamin C 500 mg.
Take the Vitamin C 2-4 times a day, and follow the instructions on the box of Airborne. Try to purchase these products at the health food store, as they will be much fresher, and the Vitamin C will be natural, not man made synthetic.
