Your doctor can schedule a diabetes nutrition class which will help or you can get information from the American Diabetes Association. See if your insurance will pay for diabetes education.

taken from another question I answered re: diabetes diets:

Well those are good suggestions...staying away from sweets.

Don't totally get rid of carbs, you need them....eat carbs with a low glycemic index (low glycemic index means that the glucose gets released into your blood at a slower pace....therefore keeping blood glucose levels more even thru-out the day) See the www.diabetes.ca website (i think that's the address).

The other thing is to go see a nutritionist...your body needs a specific diet that is special for YOUR body.

Keep that blood sugar under control :) I have gestational diabetes and am on insulin, so I understand what it's like to be watching the diet :)

Hope that helps

Take a balanced diet. 30% of the disease can be controlled with proper diet. Diet for the diabetic need not completely different from a non-diabetic person.

Food you should avoid- Sugar in any form-sweets, ice creams chocolates, candies etc, High carbohydrate foods like potatoes, fried items, fruits high in sugar content like banana, grapes, mango etc.

food you should eat more often - all green and leafy vegetables..

All the best..

The best NATURAL control for Diabetes is Bitter Melon.

This vegetable is available in all Philipino markets. I think some Indian grocery shops also have this vegetable.

Wash the vegetable and eat it raw - about half the vegetable per day and check your sugar level after about 4 days - you will see the difference. Of course I must warn you that the taste of it is very unpleasant. Once you know that it is good for you you will come to like it.

I know a person who was injecting insulin daily stopped it after his wife started to crush the vegetable and made him to drink a half cup of this juice daily.

Of course you have to have it raw. Boiling it or cooking it and eating it will have no results.

If you get good results post it as a question in this section so that others will know the value of this vegetable.

Try a vegan diet. A recent study found that the vegan diet will reverse type-2 diabetes. See http://www.vegetarianorganiclife.com/... I believe a vegan diet will help the type-1 diabetic too.

Agree with the first answer, go there and get shopping lists and what not. Also I use Richard Simmons yes the crazy guy stuck in the 80's with the fat women, just go look at one of his cook books it tells you portion size, subs for for fatty foods and high starch and how much protein and carbohydrates are in a meal.

some people have different results with foods its best to keep records of what foods you have and what effects they have on you. I say smaller portions are the keys to control knowing the glycemic index of foods will help for exchanges etc.. i can't tell you how your body feels when you eat something, but you can tell yourself. people say avoid this and avoid that ..i say smaller portions of starchy foods but the void i will express...., too much sugar of any kind. Hell we all know about the basic food groups it was drill in our heads as kids in pre. elem. mid. Jr. & high school but everybody slid right down the pyrimid into the fat. Know we get to retrain our bodies. There's a saying to much of anything ain't good for ya'.
