My sister is coming from out of state for the first time for a visit since I've moved.
Anyone have any ideas or recipes for appetizers? I'd like to try something new but simple. I've never made any dips so if you have any suggestions, that would be great!
Thanks!

Boursin Dijon Lemon Artichoke Dip

1 tub of Boursin cheese
2 tablespoons capers (more or less to your taste)
1 tablespoon dijon mustard
juice of one fresh lemon
drizzle of good olive oil

In a small bowl, combine the lemon juice and capers. Mash the capers up and add the boursin and dijon mustard. Drizzle in just a bit of olive oil to give it a smooth dip consistency. It can be as thick or thin as you like. You can also leave the capers whole if you like the little bursts of flavor.

Pan-Fried Onion Dip

2 large yellow onions
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
4 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup good mayonnaise

Cut the onions in half and then slice them into 1/8-inch thick half-rounds. (You will have about 3 cups of onions.) Heat the butter and oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the onions, cayenne, salt, and pepper and saute for 10 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook, stirring occasionally, for 20 more minutes until the onions are browned and caramelized. Allow the onions to cool.

Place the cream cheese, sour cream and mayonnaise in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat until smooth. Add the onions and mix well. Taste for seasonings.

chicken or beef satay

One of my friends taught me this really good dip/meal maker:

Brown 1 1/2 lbs. ground beef, drain fat, add one 28 oz. can refried beans, one cup shredded cheddar cheese, one 16 oz. container sour cream, one small can el pato tomato sauce, one pkg. taco seasoning. Combine until mixed well and heated through. Serve as a hot dip or pour over tortilla chips and serve like nachos.

Here's one I saw on a commercial:

Two 8 oz. pkgs. softened cream cheese in a microwave safe bowl, pour either 2 small cans mexican style tomato sauce or one 16 oz. jar salsa. Heat in microwave for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until completely melted, smooth, and heated through.
