I had been taking Humalog for a year then switched to Novolog. I found that Humalog worked for about two hours while Novolog works for three plus hours, I can't say it works for four hours. So a switch might be in order, with your doctor's approval. Moreover, you should be testing your blood about two hours after meals. One hour is not enough time after a meal to get an accurate glucose reading from that meal. I have tried 1, 2, 3 and 4 hours. Two seems to be the best on average. However, should I have a slice of bread, two and 1/2 to three would be better, at least for me. I am type 2, insulin dependent for about two years now. I experiment with different foods, insulin amounts and times to gain knowledge of my diabetes and my reactions. I can do and eat just about anything (except bread products) in moderation and feel good about it. When something gives me high readings, I eat very little of it, so I still enjoy everything - and still have readings mostly in the 90-120 range. I do shoot up high when I guess wrong but I know what to do and that works for me.
By the way, been there with old insulin and got the same reactions at the beginning. When things don't seem right, I test my blood and note down on paper what's happening, what I ate and what results. That way, I know next time. Good luck.

Yes you can develop a resistance to it, even with Type 1 Diabetes. If you are taking large amounts, sometimes the body cannot effectively use all of the insulin. You need to be checking your blood sugar often if you are having higher results, and to change your dosage accordingly so as to avoid ketoacidosis. Using a new bottle was the first step, now you definitely need to consult your physician. There can be many causes for resistance, but you need to rule out firstly that you are taking enough to cover the carbs, and that you are exercising regularly, etc. I'm not sure when you were diagnosed or how old you are, but my teenaged daughters both had higher blood sugar levels during menstruation, which then dropped rapidly right afterward. 3 of my children are now on the pump, and my daughter who was having insulin resistance for almost a year, is finding the pump was the best treatment for her as only small amounts are delivered by drip throughout the day; thereby, the body is able to more effectively utilize the insulin, drastically reducing the overall daily amount as well as the ratio of insulin to carb intake.

My son does that and has been on humalog since it came out it is so wonderful. Most likely you are not covering your food and insulin dosage right. If you test right after injection and eating your number will be high. We check my sons numbers 2-3 hours later so the insulin has peaked. Insulin can spoil when shaken and heated and after 30 days. It takes a couple of weeks to figure out how much insulin to carbohydrate ratio you need. My son is always changing and stress both physical and mental can increase or decrease the doses. Call your endro fax your numbers but get the issue addressed don't let it go high for more than 3 readings.

insulin resistance is at the heart of type two diabetes;you should be testing after two hours after a meal
remember that the flu,any infection, heat ,cold, worry, too little exercise and the time of the month and almost everything you can think of will affect your control;remember to get your flu jab as diabetes affects your immune system and before i tool jabs i used to spend all summer with a hay fever type conditons and got two bouts of flu a year
make sure you know the glycaemic index value of everythign you eat as it is very likely that you are eating stuff which contains a lot of hidden sugar-your meals have to be spaced out and the right amount and the right time
if after all this or even before your doctor must rule on this

It's called resistance, not immunity, and it can grow worse over time. You may want to switch from Humalog and see if there's a difference.

If you have not changed your diet and exercise, but are relying only on the Humalog, you need to do that.

This was a more common problem with the old pork and beef source insulins. It is uncommon with the newer human derived products. You should talk with your doctor about your problem. He is best trained to determine what is causing your sugar to be high and correct it.
