Oral herpes is the virus that causes cold sores or sometimes known as fever blisters. Cold sores are normally located on the lips.
Don't kiss anyone with a cold sore, and your chances of getting oral herpes is nil.

Herpes is a contagious infection that's caused by the herpes simplex virus. One type of the virus - herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV1) - can lead to cold sores around the mouth. An infection of herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV2) can lead to genital herpes, a sexually transmitted disease that causes blisters and pain in the genital area. Both types of the virus can be transmitted through direct contact. A person can get the cold sores of HSV1 by kissing or sharing eating utensils with an infected person. A person can get genital herpes or HSV2 by having intimate contact with an infected person. A mother who has genital herpes can pass the infection on to her newborn if she delivers the baby vaginally.

A huge percentage of the population have already been exposed to the herpes virus before they reach adult hood. Most don't know they have it, rarely experience symptoms, or don't recognize the symptoms when they do.
You're anxious about this? How do you know you don't already have the virus yourself?
There are more important things in life to worry about than this common virus!

Herpes presents itself as a small blister like lesions with crusting which you should be able to see on the outside of the mouth, lips, etc. Lesions on the inside of the mouth are canker sores....unlikely to be contagious.
