I just stopped and never ate meat again , almost 9 years now! I also changed to a healthy oil , olive, walnut, sesame, flax and I use Earth balance and smart balance instead of butter. I also switched to sucanet sugar, and maple and brown rice syrup for dessert recipes. You have to play around to see what works. I do eat some seafood and organic eggs. I love cheese but try to use soy cheese as much as possible.Eating out is a problem and we try to eat salad, potato, and fish or salmon . But salmon is good only if it's Alaskan wild caught. Hope this helps some :) Don't listen to these answers as you don't absorb calcium and iron from animal fat. You can get all the protein you need from legumes and tofu . Do your research and at least try. I feel so much better and I am not sluggish after I eat. Also switch to whole wheat bread and rice.

I weeded out certain foods over time, then one day decided I didn't need meat anymore. I've had relapses over the years, but I became veg 6 yrs ago. I still love sweets and starchy food, but I feel better when I don't eat too much of it. Restaurants: I've become a master at scanning menus for food I can eat. If nothing else, you can usually get a salad and a baked potato anywhere. But many places have a better variety than that. If you don't see anything on the menu, ask for what you want. Even at Burger King, you can request a whopper with no meat. The less you eat meat, the less you want it.....Ima Trip, up there should be "Ima B*tch."

I was a vegetarian for 18 years, but am not any longer. when I started being a vegetarian, I decided to give it a try by ceasing to eat meat for 3 days. If it was hard, I planned to start again, and if it was easy, I planned to become a vegetarian. It was easy, and I didn't eat meat for 18 more years. It is actually much harder to start eating meat again than it is to stop...because meat is an aquired taste, and is pretty repulsive at 1st when you start eating it again. To answer the other part of the question, I did not start eating healthier, because I became a vegetarian purely for my conscience and not for health. I started eating meat again because now that I am old, I have no conscience :)

For me--I didn't really plan on just being a vegetarian. I just couldn't stop associating with animals when there was meat. I was never a huge meat eater, and one day I just couldn't eat it anymore. I have had some health problems anyway and thought, since I couldn't eat meat--and since it is good for me, I might just take it a bit farther. One of the best books you can read to really make sure you get all nutrients, etc, is called Eat to Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman. It will change your view of everything! :)

Vegetarian for 22 years - no meat or fish and very rarely eggs. I gave up meat first then fish a few months later. It didn't necessarily make me eat any healthier - I still love cookies, desserts, chocolate etc.

When I eat out I have Italian (pasta dishes, pizza, veg lasagne), Thai food (bean curd, stir fries, rice dishes, noodles), Indian (rice, dals, naan bread, veg curries, lentils, chick peas, spicy veg etc), Mediterranean food (veg moussaka, vine leaves, spinach and feta pastry, houmous, pitta bread, couscous etc), salads, jacket potatoes, risotto, veg pie, veggie sausages in a fried breakfast or with mash and veg gravy - I like my food and the list could go on and on!

Check out this website for ideas, it's a British one.

I'm a lifelong ovo-lacto vegetarian of seventeen years. I plan to become a pure vegetarian in the next six months; well, a vegan to be exact.

I rarely fall ill and I actually can't remember the last time I went to see my doctor for something other than a physical accident. I'm loving the fact that I'm likely to live longer than most omnivores, plus I feel strongly that animals aren't our prey.

Oh, super concept, Plug In toddler! i've got been vegetarian for 2 years, and that i'd desire to declare i do no longer would desire to consume meat or fish, I purely consume extra cheese, yoghurt and different dairy products than non-vegetarians. in the commencing up it became right into slightly complicated to alter my weight loss application, yet I controlled to stick to it with out subject. All you like is a sturdy motivation. in my view i think of that it relatively is incorrect ingesting different residing organisms which at the instant are not very diverse from us. on your case it is the undeniable fact that Matt is vegetarian too ;) So each and every thing relies upon on you. purely attempt to have a balanced weight loss application, with the spectacular intake of necessary aminoacids, fat and carbohydrates. in case you stop ingesting meat you will desire to start ingesting a splash extra cheese, soya, beens and different ingredients wealthy in proteins. stable luck my buddy vegetarian! ;P

i was a vegetarian for a while (2-3 months) but i started getting really dizzy and i had to go to the doctors because i wasn't eating right, i wasn't eating enough protien and i needed a lot of iron, so i quit doing it. But i became one because i had realized my love for animals, and i still do love animals but i continued eating meat.....
