Indian is Asian. Us Asians celebrate birthdays just like you do. If it's a theme, well then get out your colors, get some pictures of elephants buy some saris and well, there you go. Oh and make some chicken curry (curry is so yummy).

Once I was invited to an Indian mascarade party where all guests were asked to bring their own "indian" pillow to sit on during dinner. This made people invited really involved in the theme party and every one was talking about it and planning costumes (and pillows of course) weeks before the signaled date. Finally, after a fine indian currie dinner on low tables the hostess organiced a jury to designate the best pillow.
It was tons of fun!!!

Red and metallic Gold.

You might even find a throw and stuff at Pier One that looks like your theme... place it on the table, maybe use placemats to coordinate (but not matchy-poo).

And candles. Lots of candles flickering will be gorgeous w/ the metallic gold.

lots of palm trees, reds, golds, sparkles, lots of candles everywhere with the lights off to set the mood, elephants, flowers, incense burning
