the eye told me that in the event of a retinal bleed into the eye that they would perform a vitrectomy which involes cutting the scab away from the retina, draining blood out of the vitreous and putting laser directly onto the eye.he seemed to get very excited by this last and why did he not spell out that this involved frying the leaky new vessels while he was inside the eye and thus precluding any further bleeding
it would have encouraged me enormously to know that subject to keeping hte sugar levels under control that effectively the problem would disappear at that point

I'm not sure exactly what you are asking. It sounds like you are diabetic and did not take care of yourself. The sequelae can often be ocular problems and it sounds like you were told this. It is up to you to take care of your body, the doctors cannot force your hand, nor are they responsible for explaining every single thing that could happen to you if you do not (believe me, the list is long). I have a feeling that if knowing they would have to perform a vitrectomy did not convince you of anything, nothing would.

It sounds like you just had cataract surgery and something did not go right. What you seem to be describing is one of the complications where the retina detachs from the back of the eye. The laser is used to help stop the bleeding as well as hold the nerve ending of the retina against the back of the eye. All this stuff you are describing, you can and should have used your computer to search and get information. Moreover, you are responsible for asking as many questions of your doctor to be informed. I am sure your doctor told you the cataract surgery is one of the most successful operations available. He also told you of the risks involved.

Because you have diabetes, its also your responsibility to know as much about it as you can. It's your life and no one else's. You doctor is there to help you and provide you with information to help you make better decisions about your health. But, it's also your responsibility to ask questions until you know as much as you can understand. I would encourage you to use your computer to discover all the other problems that diabetes can cause, like liver damage, kidney damage, heart damage, nerve damage. The more you know the better prepared you will be for the complications of diabetes and the more you will fight to maintain blood glucose control.

Are you saying that you were not informed what a vitrectomy was? Removal of debris and blood in the eye. Requires same day surgery, in a hospital.
