I am using it for hypertension and to control the rhythm of my heart beats. Is it okay to use this kind of medicine for a prolong period of time?

It was designed for long term use. However, no drug comes without side effects. It was more than likely the determination fo your doctors that the benefits of you being on the drug greatly outweighs the downside of using the drug.
Also, consider the fact that the risk of stroke and heart arrhythmia's are can be dangerous situations in the short term.

It was made for that....there are people who end up being on it for there whole lives. If you have any questions you should be asking your doctor. I work in a clinic,many of our doctors have been switching there patients to Metoprolol from Atenolol.Metoprolol is an older drug too,but there have been new studies showing it's better than Atenolol.

As long as it's still working for you, keep going. Over time as people age they become less responsive to certain drugs and that's a possiblility here as well. Your doctor may change it later or add something else as time goes by.

i using this same medicine, but i dont know i will think your heart will always need that rhytnm you ask your doctor.

sure no problem, and it seems it the perfect drug for you , sine you have high blood pressure and tachycardia
