the problem wiht the diabetic diet is the same reason that diets in general will fail and that is because people can not stand the pressure of being conscious all the time of what they are eating.you need simultaneously to watch everything you eat and be able to forget about it-some of the diet bookks insist on you keeping a future food diary and planning ahead day by day as if you don't plan you will make mistakes
diabetes is a very unforgiving disease and the margin for error is small;on the other hand if you squeeze the diet on too hard the typical result is that you throw up the whole thing in despair and dont come back to it in a year;in my own case i didn't do anything until i was forty six and then it took me three years and a couple of stays in a psych unit to get my sugar until control and all of this only cos of the pressure of complication;see my question on vitrectomy
the first time i tried to force down the sugar by heavy exercise;it works but you can't sustain it so the answer is to get rid of the comfort food and the easiest thing is to get rid of it completely ;just tell yourself what is the point of putting it on so that you have to take it off;remember that while you are exercising you are pouring insulin which is making you hungry and storing fat
so here is the answer;withdraw the sugar and the bad stuff very slowly and i mean very slowly;as your palate readjusts you will prefer to eat healthy food and start by reducing your sugar in your tea by one half spoon and spend a month doing this small thing;then try to establish a connection between your weight loss and your lower sugar intake;your exercise must be a natural part of your day like walking to work otherwise you will not continue with it-break each of the habits in turn by stopping them for a while and compensatng wiht something else;start by substituting extra meat and stopping sugar but watch those cholesterol levels;incidentally i read that honey is a sort of methadone substitute for sugar;swithch to honey form sugar and then it is easier to drop the honey
listen to me -this is a murderously difficult problem and here is how i approached it;in the adddition to the above i read every diet book i could find and every women's magaizine artcle dealing wiht food every day for a year so that it was imprinted on my memory and subconscious wihtout thinking about it and i should not have to think about the right food choices but it still drives me crazy about hte lack of spontaneity
when you get organised it is just some tablets and the side effects are totally avoidable
one final hint;dont try to fight it and do exactly what you are told by your commanding officers in this war;the longer you resist and take to break the more trouble it will be so submit andallow the training to become second nature
only diabetics undetrsan the problem as we are special
i have missed the most impottant point which is that if you have bulk delivrery of the insulin via the injections you need to match it with food otherwise you will no sugar in your bloodstream and the immediate and dramatic effect of this is to cut off sugar supply to your brain and you will become unconscious;but as with any other repeated habit it will become automatic and when my doctor told me to test less regularly i missed it-but this is possible only if you are on tablets-you must always train yoursefl and others to recognize oncoming hypos

Nothing of the sort. Yeah, there are restrictions. But, just like everything it's something you can live well with. I'm a diabetic for about 12-13 years. I has not stopped me much. I can do just about any and every thing. Oh, I don't have that large piece of cake or pie. But, I do have a taste. Breakfast, lunch and most dinners are simple but that's my choice because I want to break my A1c record. My last reading was 6.2 and I'm shooting for 5.9 to 6.0. Here again, that's my goal. I do have the occasional pancake or donut but it's small. Every once in a while, I'll have something that's "new" and get a high BG. So, I'm still learning - just like anything else. "Once burnt, twice shy" sort to speak. That does not me I do without nor eat everything. I simply do everything in moderation.... Things that don't work for me I try very little. And things that work - don't give me high sugar reaction - I have lots, well nearly lots. It's not all that bad, it's more of an inconvenience what with all the monitoring and checking the time to see if I have to check my BG level. But, that's better than being so restricted as you seem to think. My life is great, even with diabetes.

I don't go for all that strict stuff... At my age .... if I want it I will have it.... I just have to bolus a bit more insulin, do extra BS check ups, and back off my next meal ... Then I think twice because I will start bouncing al over the place.
I have learned not to like the taste of saucy foods that will raise my BS and I don't cook with any fats or oils, Cooking & eating as close to nature is really the best for me. I don't eat any potatoes but I do enjoy a scoop of ben&jerry's ice cream sometimes. I buy the really expensive types so I remember this is a real treat and don't think for one minute I can have it everyday!
I also use the "Let your palm be your guide" metiod I don't eat anymore than will fit in the palm of my hand at any one setting.
I don't exciser much anymore but I di enjoy a walk.
AND I don't understand your question about the strict hours??? I have 24 hours per day just like everyone else, what I do with them depends on how I feel that day.BUT it always includes blood testing & monitoring, food, BS and other health issues.
Hope this helped.

its more strict if your on the shots but there is a lot more liberty on the insulin pump. on the shots they tell you to eat at the same time everyday and not to skip meals and portion sizes play a big role in blood sugars as well as to much carb intake. exercise will help you feel a lot better. I know from experience I've had this stupid disease for sixteen years and the pump is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I don't have to stick to a strict schedule like I used to.

I'd have to agree with morphious, although i'm different in 2 ways 1) Only been 9 years
2) Not so disciplined with eating the junk food. I have the pump, which technically is not a free pass to eat what you want. But my viewpoint is this: Everyone else can eat what they want when they want. Why not us? After all, it is moderation that makes the diet healthy. That holds true wether you are diabetic, post heart attack/stroke, or a healthy adult with no health issues.

Try a vegan diet. A recent study found that the vegan diet will reverse type-2 diabetes. See http://www.vegetarianorganiclife.com/...... I believe a vegan diet will help the type-1 diabetic too.

Your insulin has to be regulated. A little less or more can harm your organs. Strict diet, medicines are the best help. If you believe homoepathy can cure it. Try it.

Aloe Vera juice helps.
