More specifically, if I have not had my daily amount of calories and need to cram some in before getting ready for bed, is that appropriate? I am looking to gain weight, in a healthy manner, and I do not like the idea of going below my daily alotted calorie intake. This being the vegetarian and vegan area, I am speaking about those types of foods. If someone could provide some sort of information about this, it would be most helpful, thank you.
(I've posted this three other times and no one seems to be responding with any useful or meaningful information. It would be most appreciated if someone could provide some insight into this question.)

Hi ya Glynn,
You should definitely try your best to plan meals throughout the day that will fullfill your daily caloric needs so that your not pressed right before going to bed. (Contrary to what many people believe there is nothing wrong with eating right before going to bed. Your body digests food the same regardless of the time of day you're eating it. All that matters is your activity level the following day to use those calories that you digested.) Since you're attempting to gain weight it's probably in your best interest to have three larger meals a day with a snack in the afternoon. I'm assuming that since your vegan that you are knowledable on which foods you can consume.
If you need a late night meal to meet your caloric goal, I would suggest a protein shake. This is something you'll need to research though as I am not familiar with whether or not protein shakes are vegan. Just visit your closest GNC and speak with someone there.
Good luck!

All I know is that eating right before bed isn't good for you.
When people say "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day," They say that because it's true. You should eat the most at breakfast so you can burn it off, during the day. Lunch, you should have a medium meal, and at dinner you should eat little, since you won't have enough time, or activity to use up the energy.
If your worried about reaching your daily calorie intake, eat more at lunch and breakfast. But if your worried about not getting the proper nutrition, you might want to consider taking an organic vitamin.
I hope this helped.

The answer before this has some good information. But if you are serious about weight gain you probably need to eat 5 or 6 balanced meals during the day. Lifting weights would help increase your weight as well. I have a friend who is body building and he does "stuff" himself with food, but throughout the day not just at one time.
Protein shakes are good too. There are vegan/vegetarian meal replacement and protein powders available. Try Naturade powders (in soy and vegetable formulas) and add it to (soy)milk. It's available at regular grocery stores in the health food aisle, or health food stores. Just a warning, chocolate or vanilla are the best ways to go.
I highly recommend going to your local library for more information. They can provide access to books, DVDs, databases and more. Your local library might even be able to provide an answer through email or instant messaging.

I would eat alot of the healthy fats then Bananas, avacodo, nuts, olives, fish, and I know there is more that I can't think of now. Just load those into your diet. Also eat organic cookies and chocolate. Don't forget to eat yummy soy ice cream too!!!! Oh and don't forget power bars they have a lot of vitamins and they have lots of calories too. look for the ones with the most carbs when you buy them. Also eat a ton of brown rice Whole grain bread and whole grain pancakes. Add flax and poppy seeds to the pancake mix for extra vitamins and calories. Organic corn bread is good too. And lots of fattening organic maple syrup. I had the same problem too when I first starting eating healthy I kept dropping weight super fast. But these tips have helped me put my booty back on. And eat fried food fried in Canola, olive, grapeseed, sun flower, or saflower oil. Don't be afraid those oils are completely heathly and loaded with vitamins.

What I suggest is that you eat healthy high calorie foods such as peanut butter sandwich (before bed) icecream or a healthy weight gaining shake. You can buy these shakes at GNC.

overeating of anything, healthy or not, can cause digestive problems. some things that may help you to gain weight are drinking 1-10 t. apple cider vinegar before meals to increase your hcl and chew your food well. it is difficult to absorb any nutrients if it is not broken down properly. make sure your meals have sufficient saturated fats (avoid polyunsaturates). good quality butter, coconut, and palm are good choices. avacado and olive oil are good too.

Moderation is probably best in all things. Try to break up the food during the day.
I really do hope this helps you.
