Turn your 'num lock' on, hold down the 'alt' key and type in '3' (on your right- hand side numbers, NOT the ones across the top otherwise it won't work). If you experiment with the numbers then you can find loads of different symbols.
☺= 1
☻= 2
♥= 3
♂= 11
♀= 12
etc

Go onto Microsoft Word, go into the Insert tab and click Symbol. Scroll down through the box and when you see the heart, click on it and it will go on the blank document. Then simply highlight it, copy, and paste it whenever you want to type it in.
That's how I do it anyway.
