thai peanut sauces and noodles are extremely fattening ... did you know the average order of pad thai has a half a cup of oil in it!!!
most asian dishes in restaurants are high in both salt and fat, especially noodles, curries, and stir frys.
if you are looking for a healthy alternative to restaurant foods, find a good recipe on All Recipes, and cut back on the soy / fish sauces and cooking oil.

i cook asian food all the time, and it really doesn't have to be unhealthy.

Different places, different styles, use different amounts in the food they make. Some people are having some misconceptions on "Chinese food." Most people rather going to nice, fancy restaurants for Chinese food, think of those many dirty Chinese take-out places. Some aren't dirty, but from what I've seen, many are. Like many other chefs and cooks, people don't try to over salt the food. Most sodium comes from your salt, and naturally many things have salt in it. Many restaurants (whether it be Thai, Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese) have healthy foods, you might be comparing the food to those little Chinese takeout places (which I suggest you shouldn't eat from). Most places though happen to have a lot of sodium in it. Sodium may be an important electrolyte, but becareful in measuring how much you intake a day
If you're ever in Flushing though, you should go to Green Papaya, it's a yummy Malaysian and Thai place.

Peanuts and curry aren't but both styles of food have a high sodium content, that is why we like it so much.
Soy sauce is used in allot of cooking and that is a very good source of sodium.

It is not a high sodium intake, but it is decent. Japanese and Korean food are healthier than Chinese...and much tastier.
