Ok. The previous answer about how tofu is made is not entirely accurate. Soybeans are boiled in water and then pressed and strained. The remaining liquid, soymilk, is then curdled with a natural mineral or enzyme, much like cheese. It's then cut into blocks for use. It tastes like beans unless you add flavor. Silken tofu is good for dips, pudding, and replacing eggs in baking. Firm tofu is good for friyng and baking. Silken tofu comes in a juice-box style container and is great to add to things after a whiz in the blender. Buying fresh tofu at the store is a crapshoot because it's often rancid. I'd recommend ordering fried tofu as a substitute for meat in any entree from a Chinese or Thai restaurant, very delicious.
I highly recommend going to your local library for more information. They can provide access to books, DVDs, databases and more information about tofu.

Tofu comes in soft , and firm. It is high in protein and takes on the flavor of what ever you marinate it in. You can also buy seasoned tofu however some is kinda tuff in texture. The best is to try different brands as it is really inexpensive. If you are going to fry the tofu as in stir fry you will want to put it on a plate with a towel and a heavy plate on top for a few hours to remove the excess water. I have just drained it and it also works.:) Most important , tofu will spoil quickly so store unused portion in water in fridge and change the water everyday and use within a few days.

it is no longer thoroughly tasteless. agency tofu does have a delightful style of its personal, and also you may want to make constructive it hasn't expired. it is an rather gentle style. you may nevertheless say the same about bread, cooked rice and egg white - somewhat flavorless ingredients yet eaten by technique of maximum folk. Tofu tastes great even as cooked with the right spices. compared to bread, rice and pasta, it truly is low in carbs and extreme in protein. it is also a source of iron and calcium which makes it a nutritional replace for both meat AND cheese. try agency tofu first. It tastes more effective efficient than mushy tofu.

It's an excellent source of protein, even more than standard meats. It's easy to cook with since it really has no flavor but tends to absorb the flavors of whatever it's cooked with. If you cut it up really small, you don't even know it's in there.
