it looks like a plate but with coals or hot water something to heat the meat???

I live in Japan and have had it many times, ALL of these ways.
It's usually done at your table.

Korean bbq typically comes out raw and marinated. Most likely it has been marinated for a couple of hours. The reason it comes raw on a plate to your table is because it's like a "you cook" thing, if there's a kind of "mini grill" in the middle of your table, you cook your meats on top of the mini grill.

If it comes out on a grill, and has a gas fire, then it's officially "bulgogi" (불고기), which means "fired meat". However, when the grill has coals or burning wood blocks, then it's called "Soot-bool goo-ee" (숯불구이), which means "charcoal roasted".

the Korean restaurant we like to eat in, has a small grill in the center of the table where we can cook or grill the bbq(s) and whats really cool about this restaurant is, its eat all u can bbq--ribs, chicken, pork, hotdogs..yum yum...lol
