they use cows the way we use horses . farmers are to poor to buy big toys so they invest in a cow . to kill a cow would make it harder for them to work so they ate other meats . that is there culture

There are many Thai restaurants that serve beef dishes. My thought would be that the one you're thinking of reflects a regional taste, or simply that beef is more expensive. Or maybe the cookis Hindu?
I've never been in a Thai place that didn't serve beef.

I've never noticed beef dishes not being available in Thai restaurants, often in recipes that originally and traditionally called for water buffalo.
As for duck, I've noticed how the number of dishes with it seems to vary at Thai restaurants from area to area. (I'm a duck lover). In some city areas you can count on at least five and often more duck dishes at any Thai place, in other city areas they average only one or two. (A good choo chee is my favourite.)

I went to Bangkok and they serve beef in all restaurants I went to. I don't think it's some religious thing. Maybe the restaurants can't get the quality beef they want.

Religion may play a part in that. I believe that Thailand is mainly Buddhist (a religion derived from HInduism) and for them the cow/ox is sacred...they serve farmers by working in the field all day for their entire lives, and they should be revered and not be killed for meat.

It could be for religious reasons. I know Hindu don't eat beef, but I don't know how many Hindu are in Thailand.
