The categories I'm thinking of are apps & main dishes, vegetarian apps and main dishes, salads, desserts, drinks. Am I forgetting anything?

If there are going to be 100 people there 1 dish per person should be sufficient food. Just divide your categtories by how many people you are inviting (100 people / 7 different categoies comes out to about 14 people per category) and it should work out to a sufficient amount of food. Are you planning to supply plates, cutlery, drinking glasses or asking people to bring those, too?

I wouldn't ask for a thing. It is a pot luck! You get lucky w/ what's in the pots! That's why they call it that!

Some folks will bring meats, some veggies, some desserts, some breads.... it will all work out, ESPECIALLY w/ 100 people coming!

I think the only thing I"d ask is for them to bring stuff in disposable pans or dishes.

If everyone brings enough to serve 8-10 there will be way more than enough. We have a pot luck at work every year at Christmas and there are about 170 of us. It is a real blast. Unfortunately we don't have time for a siesta after all the wonderful food.

I think you've got all the bases covered (most side dishes could probably be covered either under salads or veggie entrees).

I suggest going heavy on the entrees and appetizers as far as number of people bringing them. Those are the things on which I tend to load up when I'm in a buffet-type situation.

1. Technically, your "country of origin" means where you were born. So, assuming you were born in America, you'd bring American food. 2. Your "Heinz 57 mixture of English, Welch, Scottish, French, Dutch and American Indian" is an example of ETHNICITY, not country of origin. 3. Lastly, many people I've found have just taken the origin of their surname, and would just make a dish based on that. For example, Your mother is 1/2 Welsh 1/2 Native American, but your father is 1/2 Mexican 1/2 Chinese, so his and your last name is Rodriguez, or something... You'd probably make Mexican food. See what I did there?

everyone bringing a dish should plan to make it big enough to feed 15 to 25 people. I would get at least 15 people to bring something and make sure you assign dishes to them or you will end up with a lot of chips.

One. Let everyone decide what they want to bring. We've had lots of them. Non cooks can bring the paper goods, sodas and cruchies. It works out better if you don't sweat it out. Be cool it's a pot luck and they are always the best way to go.

When we have our annual family reunion everyone is asked to bring on main dish, and one side or dessert. Works well even when we have over 150 people. Make sure you have more than enough plates and napkins though.
