Well I just ate a BIG meal (Mexican food = yummy) and then I had like a glass of orange juice half an hour ago. My grandma had me use her little blood sugar thing because diabetes runs in the family. So I took my blood sugar level and it was at 134. I am a 17 year old male. I don't really have any other signs of diabetes; however, I am a little bit (10-15 lbs) overweight, nothing too bad though... Should I be worried?

And yes, that is a "stupid American measurement"

It's normal for non-diabetics to have slightly high blood sugar right after eating. Your body is still processing the food and the insulin it needs to deal with it.

Next time you have a big meal, test again right after. Then test after three more hours. If it's fallen by itself, you probably don't have diabetes.

Also do what the physician above said - you can test after fasting. If it's still high, you could have diabetes.

You can always go to a doctor and check it out if it's a worry. Chances are, if you don't feel like a slug and like dying of thirst a few hours after a huge meal like that, you're fine.

You had a bunch of food, and then took your Blood Sugar. 134 is a little on the high side. Normal levels for a fasting blood sugar is between 80-120. You took yours after eating a meal, I'd keep my eye on it, but do it after a 12 hour fast. Good Luck ~

No, that is within a normal ranger. I would take a fasting blood sugar and make sure your blood sugars are under 90 if they are then it sounds great.Of course you will get high sugars after taking in sugar but a diabetic can't produce the insulin to lower the sugar on it's own. I would check it a few more times if you want, but unless your having symptoms or high sugars I wouldn't worry.

This is a basic guideline

Before Meal Blood Sugar (normal) 110 (good)80-120
After Meal (normal) 120 (good)180

Mexican food is loaded with carbs and so is orange juice so it will really raise the blood sugar of a person even without diabetes. If you're still in doubt, see your doctor so that they can run some simple blood tests.

No, that isn't a stupid american measurement but an european one.

And 134 directly after a meal and sweet lemonade is totally ok. No need to worry. You should do this testing when you didn't eat or dring anything. In a fasting state.
If the blood sugar level is increased and again at 134 or more you should be concerned !

Normal levels are 70 - 100 in "stupid" european measurement

You blood sugar is a little on the high of normal side, but you didn't mention how long after eating this was taken. Also, it is not a plasma glucose, (the type of test where the blood would be drawn with a vial), but one taken with a glucometer. Glucometers are great, but still can be inaccurate.

If you are concerned and diabetes runs in your family, make an appointment with your Primary Care Physician to discuss your concern and the possible testing that you might want to consider to rule out diabetes or test to see if you have pre-diabetes.

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

AHHHH! Don't listen to half of what those people are saying. Yes, a glucose of 134 in a one-time measurement is a little on the high end, NO it does not mean you have diabetes. Diabetes is diagnosed by EITHER: 1) a glucose above 200 on any one measurement OR 2) a glucose above 126 after fasting overnight. Because you are at higher risk with your family history, you should be extra vigilant to have a healthy diet and stay a healthy weight, but drinking orange juice will not give you diabetes and you DO NOT have diabetes right now. Take care of yourself, and you may be able to avoid it as you get older.
