no, just the opposite
it is clear from the way that the bible is written that it just ASSUMES god exists, and assumes the reader believes in god as well

No. I believe what is written in the bible is intended to hide the real God because the people who wrote the bible can not stand to think that the real God just loves everyone.
They can't stand the idea of a God that does not see them as it's favorite.
They want a God that hates as they hate and judges as they judge, so they have created a God like this and wrote the bible to support their idea of a judgmental God. This God is a fantasy, but this does not mean that the real God does not exist hidden behind this biblical fantasy version of God.

Yes, of course. Not that anyone ever necessarily sat down and said "Hey, we've got to make sure that we really manipulate people with this stuff", but a religion that persists over time can only do so by having effective systems for producing believers and for discouraging people from leaving the belief system.
The most obvious example is the verse that says that it is a "fool" who says there is no god. I'm sure you've seen it quoted around here. Apparently it serves to reinforce people's belief and to let them know that if they stray from the belief system, the believers will call them names. That kind of social sanction is much more effective than you might think it'd be.

No. I believe the Bible was written to manipulate people into believing the writers were from God. How better to control people than to show up with writings and claim they are from the Only True God and he said.......... go kill everything in the neighboring nation, take all the spoils... OH! Don't kill the virgins... keep those for yourself. (Exodus)

everything has a purpose in life.
the bible or other scriptures is intended for history and of course to make someone closer to heaven.
if the sole intention is to "manipulate", then the bible or other scriptures won't be here for so many years.
heaven do test our faith and trust in heaven.
if we did the wrong thing, we would have created a negative karma and it can be a very very negative karma if we don't learn to distinguish what is right and what is wrong in the 1st. place before we really study the bible or other scriptures.

I used to believe that...
I was not baptized until I was 46 years old because of that belieft...
and I did not think the Bible was the Word of God...
Until... I read the Book of Mormon...
Now I believe that the Bible IS the Word of God.

No. The Bible was written in order to bring people hope and peace and a place of belonging. And only Jesus can offer that.
Also it was written to bring glory to God.

Manipulate is not the right word, but the Bible is for our benefit.

In my point of views in it, bible has made not to manipulate us, but to teach us to be a good person, to have faith not just to God but to ourselves.
