A database consists of a file or set of files that can be broken down into records, each of which consists of one or more fields. Fields are the basic units of data storage. Users retrieve database information primarily through queries. Using keywords and sorting commands, users can rapidly search, rearrange, group, and select the field in many records to retrieve or create reports on particular aggregates of data according to the rules of the database management system being used.
I suppose your colleage meant the type of database management system (DBMS)
DataBase Management System: Software that controls the organization, storage, retrieval, security and integrity of data in a database. It accepts requests from the application and instructs the operating system to transfer the appropriate data.
The major DBMS vendors are Oracle, IBM, Microsoft and Sybase

In simple database is a collection of related information. For example, you can create a database for track down the students in a school. You can create a separate data table to keep students information. Then to track down the students monthly payments, you can have a separate data sheet called payments sheet. But how do we know which student payed how much and etc? For this we have to link the student details sheet with student payment sheet. This is what does you called related data. You can find more about the databases from the following link.

Database is a collection of information organized in such a way that a computer program can quickly select desired pieces of data.
You can think of a database as an electronic filing system.

I'm pan-sexual =D To put it simply, I'm far more concerned with what is in your heart, then whats between your legs, or whether you fit into someones pretty little box of what gender is. Pansexual is a term that has been growing in recent years as a way for people to better identify their sexual identity. The word Pansexual is derived from the Greek prefix pan, meaning "all". The term is reflective of those who feel they are sexually/emotionally/spiritually capable of falling in love with all genders. Definition: Pansexuals have the capability of attraction to others regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. A pansexual could be open to someone who is male, female, transgender, intersex, or agendered/genderqueer. Pansexual FAQ: Do Pansexuals like everyone? Pansexual identified people have the physical/emotional/spiritual capability of falling in love or being with someone regardless of their gender. This doesn't mean they like everyone, and some Pansexuals do have physical preferences. The identity is used merely to express the openness and fluidity to people of all genders. How is Pansexuality different from Polysexuality? Pan means "all" while Poly means "many" and so there are some similar overlaps, a Polysexual may be attracted to some gender variant people but not have the capability or desire to be with some others. Pansexuals are open to any person regardless of their gender or sex. Aren't Pansexuals really just Bisexual? Pansexuality is not to be confused with Bisexuality in which "Bi" denotes two genders (male & female) and "Pan" being "all" is open to people who fall at all points or even outside of the gender continuum.
