First signs are accepted to be the Vedas! For them to exist, it means before there were civilizations strong enough to create such and come in contact with Chinese, Indians, Sumerians, Egyptians and Greeks!
Then, about 2,800 years ago, Persia was a great power, extending from the Pacific to Europe! The emperors problem was to attack Greek cities states.
All were progressing fine, (for Persia and every state) until religion undertook the power and governing of the state!

idea:
well the history of Iran is well documented, so I don't see how one could have an idea of it. History is History... not an idea.

i know not too much. But I think I was interesting and cool before the coming of Islam. During the days of the Persian Empire. Things seemed very organized and advanced from what I have read.
Now the country is ran by religious whack jobs like the US :(

It was great at one time, a rival to the Roman Empire (its empire was) and it was also the biggest thorn in Alexander the Great's empire until he conquered it.
