If a man shaves against the hair you run the risk of getting those bumps(ingrown hair)and that looks gross.

For a smooth shave, shave against the direction the hair lays. for an even smoother shave after your done shaving do what's called a spit shave,spit on your fingers and rub it on the rough parts of your jaw go over those areas again and then feel for rough spots. I learned this in the military before you were born,it works!... GO NAVY!!

On the male face, and with rough pubic hairs always with the grain (in the direction the hair grows)

Try down if the shave isn't close enough,then you know to go up next time.Doesn't matter eventually you'll have to shave everyday anyhow.
