how to make my dog stop eating the couch?

for some reason, my dog katie loves to tear seat cushions apart to get to the foam and eats it. she did the same thing to her nice big comfy bed i baught her so all she poops is foam cushion. how do i make her stop?

My dogs didn't eat the furnature, but shoes. All of them. And underwear. And what I did was bought the Boodha bones and plain jane rawhides and they dug those more than the shoes. I'd also HIGHLY recommend getting her crate trained when you're not home. It's easier than people think and it's going to save you $$$$ in the long run. Get some puppy treats and call out 'crate' or 'kennel' or whathaveyou, when she goes in, give her the treat, lots of praise and close the door. Make sure she has jsut enough room to get up and turn around, and fresh food and water. AS SOON as you get home, take her out back and praise some more, let her go potty, more treats...etc. It'll make things a lot easier on you both.

Oh dear, yes I have the same problem. For some reason my eldest male and youngest Male just love the stuffing. I have no idea why. I just gave them all potato sacks stuffed with dooners for the winter to keep them comfy on their beds, but alas, one by one they have been ripped apart and scattered over the garden.

I have yet to discover how to make mine stop, an endless struggle in my attempts to keep them warm and comfy.

After the years I feel it is just their need to chew, rip and shred.
I found that stuffing Kong's with peanut butter for night time restlessness prevented it for a while, but with so many dogs I could not keep up with the peanut butter supply. As soon as the peanut butter ran out, the boredom set in and the stuffing was fair game.

Age has nothing to do with it, I have 4 dogs, two older two younger, it is one of the older and one of the younger that does it.

blehhhhhh, if someone has a solution, please let me know too, I will try it and let you know of my success.

I've used hot pepper sauce on the wood items my pup was chewing on, this may stain the couch though so think first. Usually it comes from being bored or lonely b-cuz that gets your attention. Negative/positve doesn't matter. Spend more time w/her if possible. Also get her some of the big ankle bones from a pet store. They have the ones that are all cleaned and safe for your dog. Mine loves them and it takes forever to get thru one(as compared to going thru rawhide bones weekly). Hope this helps

Put her in a crate when you are not with her. This sounds like a form of separation anxiety or depending on the type of breed you dog is, or your dog could be just plain board. Some breeds are more active breeds and do require a good bit of exercise. If your dog is a pup, it should be crate trained anyway.

Buy some Bitter Apple spray to spray on and in the couch cushions - it leaves a gross taste in their mouth.

My puppy use to do the same thing, but I started putting beans in a can and rattling it whenever I saw him chew up my couch or..if that doesn't work then just spray him with water. It just might do the trick.

Sounds like your dog is not suitable for the house. What you can try to do is get him/her chew toys or you have to consistently keep an eye on her and make sure she doesnt chew on it. If/when she does you need to let her know its not okay.

Pepper, unzip the cushions and sprinkle black pepper in them. Or if you catch her in the act shake a can of pennies and tel her no.
